As a disclaimer, currently I am running Harvester on my home server. This new update just might make me switch back to Proxmox. We will see.
Proxmox VE 7.4 has been released, and it's packed with some awesome new features and updates that'll refresh your home lab environment. Let’s take a look at some of the changes in Proxmox VE 7.4.
A Solid Foundation
First off, Proxmox VE 7.4 is based on Debian 11.6 ("Bullseye"), and it uses the trusty long-term supported Linux kernel 5.15 by default. If you're craving the latest and greatest, you can opt for the Linux kernel 6.2, which comes with support for the most recent hardware features. Installing the new kernel is as easy as selecting the pve-kernel-6.2 meta package via the shell and rebooting. Voilà ! New kernel who dis?
Embrace the Darkness
For those who love a good dark theme, Proxmox VE 7.4 introduces the fully integrated "Proxmox Dark" theme for the web interface. The new theme is based on the Crisp light theme and can detect your OS or browser's color scheme preference. But don't worry, you can still manually switch between light and dark themes in the web interface, because we all need a little change now and then, right?
Simplifying Ceph Management
Ceph users, rejoice! The web interface and API now display detailed OSD information, saving you time and effort by eliminating the need to gather this data from various sources.
Downloadable Task Logs and Resource Tree Sorting
Need to inspect task logs further? Proxmox VE 7.4 now allows you to download task logs as text files directly from the GUI. Plus, you can sort VMs or containers by their names or VMID, making it easier to manage large clusters and find what you're looking for.
HA Manager Updates
The HA Manager gets some love too! You can now manually switch an online node into maintenance mode without rebooting, thanks to the addition of a CRM command. Furthermore, the HA Cluster Resource Scheduler (CRS) support has been extended to automatically rebalance VMs and containers on start, not just on recovery.
In conclusion, the Proxmox VE 7.4 update is packed with goodies. So, go ahead and update to Proxmox VE 7.4 (after doing your own due diligence) – whether you prefer the light or dark side, there's something for everyone!
Cheers,
Joe
